The awards ceremony, hosted by the Mayor, paid tribute to the work of 13 honourees who have made a significant contribution to the arts and cultural life of Vancouver as well as the 10 emerging artists.

Vancouver City Council today voted to contract Co-operative Auto Network (CAN) to provide vehicles for City business needs and to make it easier to share these vehicles with the public.&#160; The choice follows a competitive request for proposal process run from January to February 2008.
The City of Vancouver wants to take a leading role in demonstrating how car sharing can work for employers that own vehicles intended for employee business use.

New smoking restrictions in the City of Vancouver go into effect today that will limit smoking on restaurant and bar patios and near the entryways of any building.
 
Under the new by-laws, smoking is prohibited:

    Within customer services areas such as a patio that is connected to a business that includes the service of food or alcohol;
    Within six metres of an entryway, openable window or air intake of a building and the perimeter of a customer service area;
